EXPRESSIVE TYPESETTING
Typography has a lot of visual power that’s too often overlooked. It can significantly affect the tone of its content. The short story “Orientation” by Daniel Orozco is a bit of a psychological thriller delivered in the monotonous tone of humorless office manager. Bizarre and ominous, it lends itself beautifully to an expressive type treatment. I experimented with capitalization, spacing, size, and various other simple aspects of type in order to visually represent the mood and the content of each piece of the story. The cover, the primary typeface, and the styling of the page numbers bring the reader into the mundane yet menacing office space that the story takes place in.
